The January 5 called meeting of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to consider proposed rules regarding a uniform high school grade point average calculation has been cancelled. The Coordinating Board will instead consider the proposed rules at its regular meeting on January 29.
As reported earlier, this issue concerns many community and technical college educators. The proposed rules do not treat all high school courses equally, giving extra weight to dual credit, international baccalaureate, and advanced placement courses, for instance. Some instructors in vocational programs are also concerned that courses in their field might decline in enrollment if high school students are discouraged from taking associated courses when choosing career goals.
