Pre-Convention activities have never been more prominent for the TCCTA annual convention. Please plan to arrive in time to participate in workshops and other special events, scheduled during the day of Thursday, February 25th, at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston.
One full-day pre-convention workshop provides a foundation in learner-centered education as well as many practical and proven educational strategies that participants can use immediately with their students. Backed by extensive research, On Course strategies are proven to have a positive impact on student academic success and retention. Here is a link for details and registration information.
Another Thursday workshop features "Academic Coaching: Promoting Motivation, Resilience and Accountability for Developmental Students." Research confirms that students who receive assistance in clarifying their aspirations and making commitments to the educational process have a greater chance for success (Karp, 2011). Academic coaching does just this by giving educators concrete tools to build personal, yet professional partnerships with students to assist with goal-setting, problem-solving, and decision-making that promotes success both in and out of college. The entire convention program is available here. If you do not see your desired program, please check the site frequently for updates as the event approaches.
And please reserve your room early at the Westin, as the TCCTA block of rooms will likely be sold out soon.
